Top Ten Tracks 2000 – 2009

February 20, 2010

We all have a strange relationship with music do we not?  In some ways we are overly indulgent and under-critical, and yet in other ways we are simply fans appreciating something that moves us, that we identify with, that in some way articulates our selves in ways that we otherwise could not. I am no expert critic, nor do I have a highly developed musical palette, like most fans I just know what I like.  Perhaps the following posts are my own investigation into the reasons why I love the music I do, but perhaps they are also a way of encouraging you to think a little more thoroughly about the things you consume (music included).  It just may be that one of the reasons why we consume so much is that we don’t pause and reflect on what we have – we don’t enter more deeply into the realities that are already before us.  So consider this also an exercise in contentment.

I welcome you on this journey over the next days and weeks and I hope that you too will share your top ten of the last decade.  The only rules are this: the track must have been released between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2009, and you must include in any submission a brief explanation of the track and why it deserves to be in your top ten.  Enjoy.

so.. i think i am definitely this kind of music fan: if it makes me cry, dance, or play it a million times over again in the car then I love it! hence the fact that i listen to the same CD’s since college, hence the fact that i do listen to the same song over and over and over again. haha.. i wish i could devour albums like you do and take risks. i have a hard time ordering new things off the menu. i am so excited to read all your favorites!
