Strange Times

April 9, 2010

It is odd that evolutionary orthodoxy can lead secular institutions to dismiss scholars who are attempting to be faithful to scientific inquiry which lead them to question elements of evolutionary theory .

It is also odd that evangelical orthodoxy can lead Christian institutions to dismiss scholars who are attempting to be faithful to Christian witness in the world which lead them to question elements of Christian understanding.

Just so I am clear: on the one hand it seems as if secularism cannot tolerate being questioned but neither can evangelicalism, i.e. we live in times where we are furious on the one hand that intelligent design proponents are losing jobs in secular schools and yet cannot tolerate a theistic evolutionist holding a post at an evangelical institution (its almost as if we’d prefer to have science and faith entrenched against one another).  Does this strike anyone else as odd?

Disturbing is more like it. The upside is the Knox Seminary just got a heck of an OT prof.
